Five Binocs Time-Savers

When designing new features for Binocs, we’re always trying to optimize the user experience and to minimize the time needed to perform certain actions. We picked five of these time-savers to highlight.

Demand: Copy-pasting demand folders

Often similar groups of demands appear in a demand channel. You don’t have to enter them all from scratch. Just use copy-paste on folders. Select a folder, hit Ctrl+C, select the destination folder, hit Ctrl+V, and it’s done. You can change whatever you want in the copied folder without changing the original folder. width=

Availabilities: Quickly entering availability exceptions for several weeks

When adding availability exceptions you often add exceptions for several weeks (e.g. leave, team member sharing for longer periods). This can be done faster by using the tab, without using your mouse. Select the first week where you want to add an exception, type the number, hit Tab, and Binocs will automatically select the next week’s exception. Now you can type the number, hit Tab and repeat. You don’t have to use your mouse for this. width=

Competences: Setting competences for a group of services

Sometimes certain competences are related (e.g. same technology) and when a team member has a competence for one service, they typically have the competence for the other service as well. In the competences screen these services don’t always appear together, but the competence filter can help. Type a keyword in the filter (e.g. the technology) or search for a specific service tag, and Binocs will only show those competences. Now that they are grouped, it’s easier to set related competences. width=

Services: Faster service creation by using duplication

Similar services often exist with similar constraints and activities, but with some small differences (e.g., certain activities take a little longer). Instead of creating the new service from scratch again, you can just duplicate the other one. Everything is copied (except for the service code which will be automatically generated) so you only have to configure the differences. width=

Analysis: Creating and sharing report configurations

Pivot charts come in handy when you’re analyzing the data from different angles, as you can change chart configurations ad hoc, but you always have some configurations you use a lot or prefer. In Binocs it’s easy to save configurations and even share them, so other people can use them too. All you have to do is give the comprehensive configuration a name, and decide whether or not you will share it with others. width=
